W3C Widgets
Mobile widgets build with web technologies is one of the major mobile industry trends. Mobile web widgets stand for lightweight little apps with a polished UI rendered by a browser engine.
Since widgets run in a web runtime, they are limited by the APIs the respective runtime provides. Standardization initiatives driven by OMTP/Bondi, JIL or W3C define sets of enabler APIs (e.g. access to camera, messaging, PIM, etc.) but do not offer third parties the means to plug in custom APIs. Moreover, complex business logic is hard or even impossible to code in a single threaded JavaScript environment.
