mBS Mobile for JavaME Devices

The mBS Mobile for JavaME product is an OSGi implementation for devices containing a Java CLDC/MIDP environment. Although OSGi has been designed against a richer Java environment (CDC or more), mBS Mobile for JavaME makes most of the OSGi benefits available on CLDC devices. It currently supports the OSGi R3 version.

mBS Mobile for JavaME is a lightweight OSGi Framework implementation. The programming model is based on using OGSi bundles and thus enables developers to modularize JavaME applications. OSGi bundles can be used

• to provide APIs (i.e. be a headless library for other bundles)
• to provide OGSi services through the OSGi Service Registry
• to provide Visuals (achieved by registering an OSGi service that implements the Midlet interface

As the OSGi bundle lifecycle model is supported as well, bundles can be started and stopped. Depending on the capabilities of the Java AMS (Application Management System) of the device, bundles can be installed, removed and updated.
